Martin Dawson, 2012 Inductee
The founder of Fountain Hills LP Gas, Martin Dawson’s firm was among the original five businesses to open in the community. The business was awarded the plaque for the oldest established business under the same ownership during the community’s 10th anniversary celebration in 1980. A very active volunteer in the early years of the community, the Michigan native served as president of the Fountain Hills Jaycees in 1974, Fountain Hills Rotary in 1988 and the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce in 1991. He was involved in the organization of the community’s first July 4th fireworks show, which for years attracted large crowds from the Valley. He was a charter member of the Fountain Hills Shamrock Society, which initiated the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. He was named Jaycee of the year in 1972 by the Paradise Valley Jaycees and was Fountain Hills Business Person of the Year in 1991. Although he relocated his business outside the community in 1996 and renamed it Arizona Propane Co., he has remained active in the community by participating in every Thanksgiving Day parade and donating trailers (for use as stages) for Christmas lighting programs, Sunrise Services and White Castle Days.
