Bruce Hansen, 2006 Inductee
Mr. Hansen moved to Fountain Hills in 1989 and in less than a year helped incorporate the community, won a two-term seat on the Sanitary District Board, assumed the task of lighting the Avenue of the Fountains for the holidays and served the interim town council on the cable tv subcommittee. While Chairman of the Sanitary District, he played a key role in solving the effluent problem and participated in negotiations that lowered the cost of the groundwater effluent distribution system from two million dollars to one dollar. Elected to his first three-year term to the Chamber of Commerce in 1991, two years as President, Hansen continued to lead the Avenue Holiday Lighting, renovated the original Chamber trailer office and visitors center at the Fountain to include the first museum, served as Executive Director in lieu thereof and initiated/facilitated new events. Childless, he pushed the bonds for the Middle/High School, helped start the original Midnight Madness and served on the original Boys and Girls Club Committee, ultimatelly donation all of the telephone, data and TV wiring in the new facility. He served two terms on the Planning and Zoning Commission and served as president of both the Sunrise and Noon Kiwanis Clubs. He and his wife Cassie were named Business Persons of the year in 1999. He has been a member of the Civic Association, Arts Council, Community Theater, MMPC, ADOG, Republican Club, Women’s Republican Club, Boys and Girls Club and is an honorary member of the Fountain Hills Historical Society for his spaghetti dinner fund-raising events.
