Don Lawrence, 2007 Inductee
He is the founding pastor of Christ’s Church. He still actively pursues his ministerial obligations and was chairperson of the Fountain Hills Ministerial Association. His first display of community involvement was when he established the Fountain Hills Men’s Softball League in the late 1980s. It was a very popular activity for residents and it rebuked the common thinking in town that it would not succeed. His perseverance in rejecting that thinking paid off with two leagues and 12 teams. The leagues paved the way to the formation of the Fountain Hills Parks and Recreation Department. He served on the Town Council, being selected initially when Councilman Charles Fox stepped down. He also served on the board of the Fountain Hills Noon Kiwanis Club, the Civic Association and the Sunridge Foundation. He chaired the Tot Lot fund-raiser for Golden Eagle Park, served as president of the Noon Kiwanis Club, helped with several School Board bond campaigns, and served as a spokesman and chairperson for a campaign to get the state to widen the Beeline Highway between Fountain Hills and Mesa. In 1991, he was named to the list of The Town’s Top 20 volunteers. He is a past president of the Arizona Christian Convention.
